Asia Optometric Conference 2024 in Bangkok on November 14-15, 2024

The Optometry Association of Thailand (OAT) is organizing an event named “AOC 2024” in Bangkok from November 14-15, 2024. This event will focus on the theme “Vision for All Asia”, with the aim of bringing together optometric societies from all over Asia to meet up during the famous Lantern Festival (Loy-Krathong). The festival is a significant cultural event, and it will be an excellent opportunity for attendees to explore Bangkok’s vibrant nightlife and delicious street food. The event will be held at Bhiraj Hall in BITEC Bangna, which is a modern and spacious venue located in the heart of Bangkok. The event hall is easily accessible via the skytrain network, which is the most convenient mode of transport in Bangkok. It provides a fantastic opportunity for attendees to explore the city while attending the event. The event will offer a variety of topics and workshops related to optometric practice. These sessions will be designed to cater to the diverse interests and needs of the attendees. Overall, this event promises to be an excellent opportunity for optometric professionals to network, learn, and have fun in one of the most exciting cities in Asia.

AOC National Classification Course on August 22, 2024 in Manila

The AOC National Classification Course, hosted by the Asia Optometric Congress, Asia Academy for Low Vision, and Asia Sports Vision Academy, in partnership with the Philippine Paralympic Committee, Philippine Sports Commission, Vision Science Institute, Integrated Philippine Association of Optometrists Inc., and Manila Central University, took place at the Helix Auditorium last August 22, 2024.

Congratulations to all dedicated Optometrists for completing the AOC National Classification Course.

 

 

Publication of the Second Issue of AOC Journal – Journal of Optometry Eye and Health Research (June 2022) + Consensus on Myopia Management for Asia

This is to announce that the Consensus on Myopia Management for Asia is now published in the Journal of Optometry Eye and Health Research (JOEHR), an official journal of the Asia Optometric Congress (AOC).
This Consensus on Myopia Management project was initiated by AOMA, in partnership with AOC.

Latest News from India:

National commission for allied and healthcare professions, India appointed its interim committee on the 10th of June, 2022. NCAHP was established through an act of Indian parliament in March 2021. NCAHP is an umbrella council for 56 allied and healthcare disciplines in India. These disciplines have been clubbed into 19 groups for administrative convenience. Optometry is under ophthalmic sciences group. The other ophthalmic disciplines are ophthalmic assistant and vision technicians. Optometry has been accorded independent practice status and the other two disciplines have been placed in allied sector.

NCAHP will establish academic and practice norms in all the disciplines. In the academic area, norms for establishment of colleges, curriculum, infra structure, nomenclature of the academic programs and duration of the programs will be implemented. For practice standards regulations for – licensing exams, register of professionals, dos and don’ts in clinical practice, professional conduct norms and offences and penalties will be established.

Dr. Venkataramana Kalikivayi, HOD, Ahalia School of Optometry, Kerala and, Prof. Aditya Goyal, Principal, Sankara College of Optometry, Bangalore and Ludhiana have been appointed by the government of India as members of the committee for ophthalmic sciences group of NCAHP.
